Inspiration Corner
written by Leah Andrea When we are confronted with someone else's negativity, it can feel somewhat like a slap in the face.
If we are not paying close attention or aware of what is really happening, we can be left wondering what we did to bring on such a reaction. Effectively, we can take on the negatively as if we caused it, or responsible for it. When we are unsure about where we are placed in our own emotional responsibility, it can be very easy to take the negativity of others personally. Whilst we are neither responsible for the attitudes and emotions of others, we must also remember that the behaviour, responses and attitudes of others is not about us. It is about them, and them only. The negativity of others is a reflection of how they are feeling about themselves, their environment and their life. If you are positive when around them, this can either encourage them to bring change into their lives, or show them how unhappy they are and direct unhappiness towards you. Still not your fault. Everyone has a choice to respond the way they want too. When we are met with negativity that is not ours, you too have the choice to walk away before you are affected too. Protect yourself from negativity. Stay connected to your emotions when confronted with negativity from others, if it is not about you, and nothing to do with you, remove yourself. Negativity is contagious and easily transferred from one person to another...immunise yourself from it daily. |
